1. กลุ่มอาการอักเสบช้ำบวมตามกล้ามเนื้อและข้อต่อต่างๆของร่างกาย นักวิทยาศาสตร์ทราบว่าสารประกอบแซนโทนในมังคุดมีฤทธิ์ในการยับยั้งเอนไซม์สองชนิดในร่างกาย คือ Cyclo-oxygenase 1 และ Cyclo-oxygenase 2 ซึ่งเอนไซม์ทั้งสองชนิดนี้เป็นสาเหตุที่ทำให้เกิดการอักเสบ ดังนั้นสารประกอบแซนโทนจึงสามารถลดสาเหตุที่ก่อให้เกิดการอักเสบได้และช่วยส่งเสริมการทำงานของข้อด้วย
2. กลุ่มอาการติดเชื้อทั่วไป เช่นเชื้อแบคทีเรีย และเชื้อไวรัส โดยที่สารประกอบกลุ่มฟีนอลลิค คอมพาวด์ สามารถออกฤทธิ์ต่อเชื้อ Candidas เชื้อไวรัส และเชื้อแบคทีเรีย ไม่ให้มีการเจริญเติบโตและขยายตัวได้ ผลจากการที่สารประกอบจากธรรมชาติกลุ่มนี้สามารถออกฤทธิ์ต่อจุลชีพหลายกลุ่มที่แม้แต่ยาปฏิชีวนะ (ที่ถูกออกแบบให้ออกฤทธิ์กับแบคทีเรียเท่านั้น) ก็ไม่สามารถทำได้ ทำให้สารประกอบกลุ่มนี้มีประโยชน์โดยตรงต่อผู้ป่วยด้วยโรคติดเชื้อ และการใช้สารประกอบแซนโทนก็สามารถช่วยลดอุบัติการณ์ของการดื้อยาได้

ตอบ : อนุมูลอิสระคือโมเลกุลอิออนที่มีอิเลกตรอนวงนอกที่ไม่เสถียร และไวต่อการเกิดปฏิกิริยา Oxidation และเกิดปฏิกิริยาต่อเนื่องทำให้เกิดการทำลายเซลล์ต่างๆของร่างกายอย่างมาก ทั้งนี้อนุมูลอิสระ (Free Radical) และ Reactive Oxygenspecies หรือ ROS โดยทั่วไปมักจะหมายถึงโมเลกุลที่มี Oxygen เป็นศูนย์กลาง เช่น Hydrogen peroxide (น้ำยาล้างแผล) H2O2
